Watson returns to winning a title after Monterrey in 2016
Heather Watson won the Mexican Open after defeating Canadian Leylah Fernandez 6-4 6-7 (8) 6-1.
“I am so happy to get my fourth title,” the tennis player told wtatennis.com. “It’s been a few years, so I’m really happy to have overcome this blockade”
Watson had to defeat another teenager, Chinese Wang Xiyu, to reach her fifth WTA Tour final in Acapulco.
He won a title for the last time in 2016, including in Mexico, and it has been a difficult road since then.
The 27-year-old dived in and out of the top 100, but finished last season only reaching the Tianjin Open final without success.
Her 2020 I got the semifinals of Hobart International and the victory on Saturday will make her return to the top 50 for the first time in almost four years.
