Online gambling operator Global Gaming will be able to appeal a decision made by Spelinspektionen last year which saw the revocation of its SafeEnt licence.
As confirmed in a statement on its website, the Administrative Court of Appeal in Jönköping will grant a review permit, looking into whether the Swedish Gambling Authority’s decision to revoke the licence in June 2019 was correct.
The statement read: “The Swedish Gambling Authority decided on June 17, 2019 to revoke Global Gaming 555 AB’s subsidiary SafeEnt Ltd’s license for betting and online gambling. The decision was appealed to the Administrative Court which on November 12, 2019 decided to refuse the appeal.
“The Administrative Court’s decision was appealed to the Administrative Court of Appeal in Jönköping, which today has informed of its decision to grant review permit. The review permit means that the Administrative Court of Appeal in Jönköping will decide whether the Swedish Gambling Authority’s decision was correct.”
Last year, Spelinspektionen withdrew the licence for commercial online gambling and betting of Global Gaming subsidiary SafeEnt, which runs the igaming entity Ninja Casino alongside spellandet.com. The licence was revoked on the grounds of ‘serious operating deficiencies’ in the management of Ninja Casino.
The regulator also found that the operator had failed to sufficiently address actions against money laundering and terrorist financing, with deficiencies found in the company’s risk assessment and measures for customer knowledge
“We are, of course, relieved that the Administrative Court of Appeal today has granted a review permit of the case,” concluded Tobias Fagerlund, Global Gaming 555 AB’s CEO. “We hope that the Administrative Court of Appeal will eventually share our opinion that the Swedish Gambling Authority’s decision was disproportionate and incorrect.”
