Vietnam, a millionaire betting round – linked to a well-known Asian bookmaker that also operates in Europe – and dozens of people arrested
It is the balance sheet of a maxi-operation – for local authorities, one of the largest ever conducted in the country – completed in the past few days. The agents arrested 22 people and seized – in different cities – hundreds of computers and equipment used to place bets.
The organization would have collected bets for about 1.3 billion dollars, but the investigators did not explain how active it was. The association – according to what has been ascertained at the time – had ties with Fun88, an Asian bookmaker that also operates in the United Kingdom where it is a jersey sponsor or partner of some Premier League football teams.
In Vietnam sports betting is currently banned, the Government has announced on several occasions that it wants to legalize the sector, but has never taken concrete initiatives.
