Further South American gambling regulatory developments see Bolivia’s interim government confirm the appointment of Juan Carlos Antonio Abrego as the new Director General of Bolivia’s Gaming Control Authority (AJ Bolivia).

Abrego’s appointment was confirmed by acting Bolivian Economic Minister Jose Luis Parada, hosting an official inauguration at AJ Bolivia offices in La Paz.

Minister Parada underlined that Abrego’s appointment would seek to delivery ‘transparency to the technical implementation of systems and of suitable professionals regulating the Bolivian gambling’.

Addressing media, Abrego further stated that Bolivian could learn from other countries in better administrating gambling services to generate new sources for employment.

Bolivia’s economy and political landscape has been rocked by months of protests against the interim government, following the disputed removal from power of former President Evo Morales, who was charged in October of illegal movements to change Bolivia’s Constitution, and allow him to run for a fourth term as President.

Taking leadership of AJ Bolivia, Abrego stated that he would support the development of new projects and enterprises which could contribute to the economic growth of the country.

“With the help of all colleagues we have to carry out an absolutely transparent task, that is our commitment,” he said. “There will be transparency in each and every one of the processes that are carried out in this institution. I want to thank the Minister of Economy and President Jeanine Añez for her trust.”
